I agree with some comments that the legal system be held more responsible for releasing pysco related criminals. If they are released they should have to have an accountable contact for life and have a record so police may be beable to act more swiftly in some situations etc

When is it safe to say enough is enough, all of these people had lives to live and without any disregard the killer took that, so if they are criminally insane then i say they spend there lives locked up, you can’t say it won’t happen again

You guys seriously don’t understand, I work in mental health (forensics) and to be honest, no not all of these people give a shit if they have to live with their actions….some of them really really do not believe they even committed their index offense, and some can’t even get out of bed due to the devastation of their actions.
You can’t make this young man “pay” for something he didn’t really understand he was doing just to make yourselves feel better about the whole situation.
The whole mental health system in general is broken…the doctors really don’t care…they don’t ask the questions that need to be asked and they discharge patients that maybe should have been kept a little longer.

I am writting to the Justice Minister, my MP and the supreme Court, to protect the Canadian tax payer from the bastardization of the legal sense of justice. Do away with this law in full and give the tax payer the right to expect TRUE JUSTICE for the crimes that are committed against us. I view ALL parts of the legal tread -mill (law schools, courts, lawyers, judges, DEFENCE -LAWYERS, Parliament, and the supreme court )as suspect in keeping this insane line of defence valid. That is true insanity !

…..This kills me, i knew the defendent, and family personallly…. as far as i knew, he wwas in a seemingly stable metal state…. what has not been mentioned , and what i think attributes grately to this mental deterioration, is that the family had moved not 2 years before this tradgety, Etienne was a smart, athletic, motivated, kid who was close with his family… he expressed to me personally that there wasnt much he wouldnt want more.. than to move and have to start a new life. I would specualte drugs became apart of his life after his move to Peterborough. Poor family.

Well I must disagree with Linda…

While they must live with what they have done, what about us families who must also live without our loved ones? And be forced once a year to deal with this over and over?

Raymond Irwin was seen in St Mary’s hospital the day before the “murder” ( that is what it is, not an indexed offence) and they released the beast to go home and sleep off what ever drugs he was on. 12 hrs later our mother was dead. Think about that, and tell me he is suffering more than anyone else as he pursues his mothers estate with legal aid lawyers and 3 meals a day and his own private condo all paid for by who? Us the damn taxpayers and the same family that he forever changed!

I think it is disgusting how Tim has not received justice. I actually know of people who side with Mr. Li, and defend him to the end, because he was mentally ill and therefore not “criminally responsible”. I think this is reprehensible. I have mental health issues. I have experienced hallucinations before (not from schizophrenia, but from a possible sleep disorder). I know how very real they feel. But I also knew that the stuff I was hearing and seeing was illogical. And I got help asap, was put on medication, and am pretty much rid of those hallucinations. I always discussed my meds with my doctor and pharmacist and used their advice re: dosage adjustment, etc. It would have been irresponsible for me to not get treatment. I knew it could get worse, so I got help. Mr. Li,on the other hand did not take his medications properly, and allegedly refused treatment for schizophrenia in 2005. These things make him criminally responsible in my mind. Lock him up and throw away the key, I say.

I am also mentally ill, but if I had done something as horrific as Mr. Li did, sick or not, I would belong in jail. With no chance of parole. Murder is always wrong! I don’t care what your claims are, if you are a violent criminal.

Seriously, RCMP, wake up! The victim here is Tim McLean. Stop showing leniency towards his killer and start showing some compassion for Tim. Again, he is the victim, and the *only* victim here.
